Yvonne had the honor of singing the National Anthem at First Energy Night at the Reading Phillies on August 2, 2011. Here are some pictures and a link to the YouTube video. Read why this was a God sighting...
Ok, so here's another God Sighting story. There are so many things that happened to fall into place for me to sing the National Anthem this night. First of all, that I was chosen at all to represent my company, First Energy. Here's the story: I was supposed to be on vacation the week of this game. I had tried to schedule a week in Virginia Beach with our timeshare and didn't realize that some of the weeks I had given as a range were the weeks that Jacob and Sarah were at Harvey Cedars. So, the week that we got confirmed was the week Sarah was supposed to be at camp. We thought about going alone (Yvonne and her husband), but we knew that wouldn't go over well with the kids. So, I rented it to a co-worker and we went on vacation about two weeks before. We had gone to Rehoboth Beach for several days and we were planning several day adventures the rest of the week. That Thursday, we were going to Dorney Park. FirstEnergy has discount tickets that the employees can purchase from a website with a particular code. I thought maybe I had emailed the information to my home email, but I did not find it. I called one friend at work to see if she had the information. She was not at her desk, so I called another friend. When she answered the phone she said, "I was going to call you!". After getting the information I needed, she asked me if I was interested in singing the National Anthem at the Philles Game on August 2nd, which was a Tuesday. Tuesday is our usual band practice night and we had a concert that next Saturday. I asked her if I could let her know and she said she wanted to know by Friday. Now, if I hadn't called her to begin with, I'm pretty sure she would have called my office to find me out and asked someone else! Next thing was to talk to Patti. She is a nurse at a hospital and has to ask for her nights off pretty far in advance. I called her and told her what I was offered. She said I must do it. She also said she had off that week so we could practice another night! I called my friend back from work and told her I could do it. It was an amazing thrill. And an amazing orchestration by God for me to be there that night. The echo doing the National Anthem at a ballpark is terrible and you have no monitor to hear yourself.
